Foods That Are Good For The Heart

There is nothing better than a good balanced diet for a healthy mind and body.  Since it was World Heart Day on 29th September, we thought that it would be great to share some specific foods that are rich in nutrients, healthy fats and fibre, and have been shown to maintain heart health.

Avocados

Love avocado on toast? Great! They’re packed full of potassium that is good for helping to control blood pressure.

Oranges

These citrus fruits contain hesperidin, which help to protect the arteries and maintain a stable blood pressure.

Oily Fish

Salmon, mackerel and sardines are great oily fishes rich in omega-3 fatty acids making them great healthy heart foods.  Omega-3 fatty acids have been show to lower the risk of plaque build up in the arteries, which when it builds up can cause a blockage.

Nuts

We’re talking walnuts, pistachios, peanuts and almonds that are a great source of healthy fats and fibre, which are good for your heart if eaten as part of a balanced diet.

Dark Leafy Greens

These include things that are a wonderful source of fibre and antioxidants that are key players in removing harmful compounds from your body.  Dark leafy greens like kale and spinach are great vegetables to add into your diet for good heart health.
